PTSA Legislative Updates

Advocacy in Action

Worried how the economic downturn could impact the school? Are you pleased with the care provided by the school nurse? Join together with other PTSA members to make our voices heard on legislative issues like these and many others that affect Georgia’s children and public education.

Sign up for Georgia PTA’s Grassroots Advocacy Network by clicking on “Capitol Watch." This customized advocacy tool provides regular updates and news from the State School Board and Georgia General Assembly and makes it easy to advocate for our children and their education by providing links to track legislation and contact our elected officials.

For more information or to join the Legislative Committee, contact our KES Legislative Chair Karen Backus with questions!

Upcoming Events:

State Advocacy Conference - September 15, 2010
Annually in September at the State Capitol

It is important for PTA leaders and members to build a year-long working relationship with state and local legislators and to understand both the issues impacting children and how education is funded in Georgia. At the State Advocacy Conference, hosted annually by Georgia PTA, learn to be more effective advocates for children while participating in establishing the Georgia PTA legislative platform.

PTA Day at the Capitol - March 2, 2011
Annually in February at the State Capitol

This annual event is held in February when the state legislature is in session. PTA Day at the Capitol provides PTA leaders, members and supporters an opportunity to become more familiar with the legislative process and to actively speak with legislators about education and children’s issues. Develop and put your advocacy skills to work under the Gold Dome and over lunch with your state legislators. Bring a van full of PTA members – all wearing red – and let your voice for children be seen and heard.
